BIZ BUZZ: Crisis, Scandal Stories Capture Filipinos’ Attention

Get ready to dive into my latest update!

Don’t be surprised if stories on crises and scandals are dominating headlines and social media timelines because Filipinos—including those in the corridors of economic power—can’t seem to get enough of them.

According to the results of a three-month national media scan conducted by PAGEONE Analytics and Insights (PAGEONE AI) for the Reputation Management Association of the Philippines, these stories have “almost completely overshadowed” the Marcos administration’s broader governance agenda.

These stories published from August to November 2025 include the flood control corruption scandal, the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, high-profile arrests, cabinet resignations, the Marcos-Duterte rift, the detention of former President Rodrigo Duterte, and incidents in the West Philippine Sea.

RMAP, the country’s leading professional body dedicated to advancing excellence in corporate, public sector, and institutional reputation management, warned that this imbalance “deprives the public of a full understanding of how the country is being governed, and noted that the administration has not done enough to communicate its broader programs outside these crises.”

Indeed, according to the PAGEONE AI Media Scan, the government’s programs and long-term reforms “remain largely invisible.”

So looks like the Marcos government needs to do a lot more on the communications front.
