BrandPlay’s ‘#TechAMuna: Spot & Stop Online Fraud’ Campaign Makes A Comeback This Year

BrandPlay, the country’s fastest-growing Integrated Marketing Communications agency specializing in brand and corporate reputation campaigns, brings back the award-winning campaign on technology titled, “#TechAMuna: Spot & Stop Online Fraud,” this year to educate the public as they navigate the digital sphere.

Initially launched in 2022, the primary objective of the campaign is to address Filipinos’ lack of awareness of cyber dangers occurring in the general online community. With its return this year, the campaign aims to widen its focus by educating Filipinos on spotting and stopping online fraud in four specific areas namely, the general online community, e-commerce or online shopping, messaging applications, and mobile phones.

In 2023, Filipinos lost at least Php 155 million due to scams and fraud from January to August. In the same year, as reported by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), the Philippines came forth as the epicenter for online shopping scams in the entirety of Asia. This year, according to anti-scam app Whoscall, the number of scam calls and messages in the Philippines skyrocketed by 200 percent from January to August compared to last year.

With these present numbers in mind, BrandPlay’s Director, Fritz Cruz, shared his vision about the campaign: “As time goes by, more and more Filipinos are getting scammed online. From text messaging to online shopping, scams are getting more prevalent and deceptive. On its comeback this year, what we are hoping to accomplish through this initiative is to address Filipinos’ cybercrime awareness and increase their digital literacy even more. By providing them sufficient information that they can have access to online, we can aid them as they navigate the digital space until they grasp its basic ins and outs.”

BrandPlay envisions a future where more Filipinos, regardless of age, can discern and battle scams and frauds that will come their way. “#TechAMuna: Spot & Stop Online Fraud” aims to be a place of safety for Filipinos in the digital world where, if not navigated safely, can be a huge den where deceivers prowl. It reminds everyone that the Philippines could be a leading nation where digital literacy is encouraged, taught, and practiced.
